At the Invercargill Trotting meeting early this month Bonnie Sandy showed a lot of pace after losing some ground at the start of his race. He is a five-year-old gelding by Rey de Oro from a Drusus mare, and if he leaves his mark at Wyndham to-mor-’row is likely to finish in the money. The Trentham Track. Previous to yesterday’s racing the track at Trentham had been regularly watered to keep the sting out of the going, and the ground, being of a puggy nature, when rain commenced to fall would become very holding, and this no doubt accounted for the failure of many well-fancied candidates failing to race up to expectations. World’s Richest Stake. The richest racing prize in the world, the Santa Anita Handicap, a sweepstake of l.lOOdol for starters, with 100,000dol added, one mile and a-quarter, was won recently by Bay View. Mioland and Bolingbroke wore in the places. Bay View was one of the outsiders of the field and paid over half a century on the parimutuel. First Start. Ever England, winner of Iho Trial Plato at Trentham yesterday, was making his first appearance in a race. By Foxbridgo,

his dam Marchette is by Limond from March, by Marble Arch from Lady Musket, and traces back to the. Yalicrina family. Ever England was bred by Mr C. E. Robertson, manager of Messrs Wright, Stephenson a.nd Co’s bloodstock department, and is raced by him in partnership with Mr S. C. Sutherland.

A Successful Season. Tho Invercargill trainer, Mr W. R. Hazlefit, has so far experienced a successful season with his big team and has won 15 races in the Otago 4 and Southland districts, the total stakes won amounting to £1,837. Swimming Exercise. Density, who won the Great Easter Handicap last year and followed that success up bv winning under 9,2 at the South Canterbury autumn meeting, is now being given swimming exercise at New Brighton, and is reported to be thriving on this method of training. When well Density (Pink Coat —Denise) is a very smart mare over short courses, but this season a second out of six starts is her record. Brackets at Wyndham.
