TRAINING FOR BALLOON BARRAGE.—It is surprising the number of jobs a balloon operator may be called upon to do. All the knots and bends known to a Boy Scout, fabric sewing, splicing, knowledge of stresses and the properties And uses of hydrogen are taught during a four weeks’ course. The recruits then proceed to operational balloon sites where they learn to handle the “pigs,” as they are seen doing in this training hangar.
