SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

OTAGO YOUTH'S DISTINGUISHED CAREER [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. Four scholarship awards were announced by the Canterbury Agricultural College Board of Governors today. They were as follows : —■ Diploma Course Entrance.—Charles lan Overton. Degree Course Philip Parcel! and Alfred George Green. Shell Scholhrship (open to students graduated or graduating in agriculture). —A. D. Stewart. Charles Overton, who is 19 years of age, was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School, where be had a fine scholastic record, among the prizes he won being the David Baxter Memorial for commercial subjects. He passed the University Entrance Examination in 1939. He was a member of the senior cricket team (deputy-captain in 1938-39), the senior Rugby and shooting teams (champion shot in 1939), and the school athletic team (captain in 1939). He was prefect, and in the cadets held the rank of regimental quarter-master-,sergeant. He established a school javelin-throwing record in 1939, won the senior fives doubles in 1937-38, won the school boxing championship in 1939, and won the cup as the best all-round athlete in 1939. Errol Parcell was born in 1920, and was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School, passing the University Entrance in 1933. He was an allround athlete, being a member of the ■school’s senior Rugby team and of the athletic team. He attended the Otago University last year. Alfred Green was born in 1919, and was educated at the Christchurch West High School, where he captained the senior Rugby team for two years. He was head prefect in 1938, and was regimental sergeant-major in the cadets. He attended the Canterbury University College in 1939 and 1940.
