SIR WALFORD DAVIES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 11. (Received March 12, at 12.15 p.m.) The death has occurred of Sir Walford Davies. [Sir Henry Walford Davies, British organist and composer, has been Master of the King’s Music since 1934. Born at Oswestry, on September 6, 1860, he became chorister at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. Afterwards .lie studied in London under Sir Walter Parratt and at the Royal College of Music. In 1898 ho was appointed .organist of the Temple Church, and from 1903-7 was director of the Bach choir. His compositions include the cantatas ‘Everyman,’ ‘ Herve Riel,’ and ‘Heaven’s Gate,’ as well as the music for songs from Shakespeare, Browning, Burris, and Kipling. He was knighted in 1922.] MRS J. R. RODGERSON The death has occurred of Mrs J. R. Rodgerson, of 16 Albert street, St. Clair. Mrs Rodgerson was the second daughter of the Hon. Mark Cohen, an early editor of the. ‘ Evening Star.’ Her social activities made her very well known in Dunedin circles. She was the first lady editor to conduct the women’s page in this paper. In the Otago Women’s Club, of which she was a member, she was associated with the literary and play-reading circles. She was also keenly interested in kindergarten work. Mrs Rodgerson is survived by her husband and two sons.
