CENTRE EVENING SPORTS PIPE-OPENER FOR OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS Tlia evening meets conducted by (lie Otago Centre of tlie New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Litis season have brought to light some highly promising school boy and girl runners, and at hut night’s meeting on the Caledonian Ground Joan M’Kenzie (Macandrow Intermediate) registered her third win in successive weeks, taking the 75yds girls’ handicap (under 14) trora scratch in 10 2-ssec. Running front a tong mark of 220yds in the oue-niile open handicap, R. B. M’Kernan, the young Civil Service athlete, repeated his winning effort in the half-mile on Saturday, and, keeping his form well, ho returned irnin 26 4-ssec for the distance. L, J. Bradshaw, also of Civil Service, won the junior mile handicap front 55yds in the good time of 4tnin 33 l-sscc. Bradshaw has also shown encouraging form in recent races, and won the mile at the Caledonian sports in 4min 24 4-sscc off 115yds. A. M'Cartney, the Civil Service allrounder, registered anolher double, taking the high jump and shot putt handicaps. The former King’s High School athlete, A. L. Carson (Civil Service), who has been • shaping well in interelub competition at recent meetings, showed impressive form in winning the 220yds junior handicap in 23 4-sscc off 16yds. Miss Eunice Nattman, off lyd, won the 100yds women's handicap in 12sec, and Miss K Burns won the women’s long jump handicap with 15ft 6in. The mooting was the last of the weekly evening gatherings, and for many of those taking pari should serve as an excellent pipe-opener for the Otago championships, which are to bo held on Saturday.
