OBITUARY
MISS EDITH HODGKIHSOK The death has occurred of Miss Edith Hodgkinson, at tlie age of 81 years. She was a daughter of Dr Samuel Hodgkinsou, who was a member of Parliament during two terms for the Riverton and Wallace constituencies respectively. Miss Hodgkinson was the author of two collections of verse, ‘ A Handful of New Zealand Verse ’ and ‘ God Is Our Refuge and Strength.’ She took a degree at the University of Otago, and was later engaged in teaching in a North Island school. For some time she was a prolific contributor of articles to the ‘ Otago Witness.’ She was recognised as one of the “ old school ” of poets, and had a keen appreciation of literature, particularly of John Milton, whoso works she could recite at length, even in her later years. She had a remarkable memory, and was noted for her incisive comments on current events. A brother and two nieces of Miss Hodgkinson live in Auckland.
