SUBVERSIVE STICKERS

CHARGES AGAINST FOUR MEN

AUCKLAND, December 6. Charged with publishing a subversive statement in Auckland yesterday, four men who were arrested last night appeared in the Police Court to-day. They were Phillip Leslie Hardcastle, ageu 32, a carpenter; Herbert Henry Swann aged 31, a carpenter; Henry Joseph Human, aged 39, a carpenter; and Alex. Silverman, aged 27, a cabinetmaker. The charge sheet stated that all were born in England. Detective-sergeant Walsh said the men pasted stickers on telegraph ipolcs and other places advising that no more troops should go overseas. Other alleged subversive literature was also found in their possession. He asked for a remand to December 16. Mr Julius Hogbcn asked for bail. The magistrate, Mr J. Moiling, granted a remand, and allowed bail to each man in his own recognisance o( £IOO-nr equivalent sureties.
