WOOLLEN STOCKINGS ARE CHIC
Knglish designers and manufacturers are getting together on the “ after the silk has " gone ” stocking problem. Ribbed or line mesh stockings to match tlio costume or scarf will no doubt bo the popular war-time fashion, among the fair sex. These fashions shew the below-the-knee stocking first introduced by Schiaparelli. When she introduced the knitted stocking, and a scarlet one at that, to wear with “ little girl ” shoes, it was a novelty which no one thought would become a necessity. Silk stockings arc becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in London, where women are rejecting the lisle substitute. Although supplies of silk stockings wore thought to be ample, the quantities for home consumption have apparently been rationed in order to keep up the export supplies. So, while women are now knitting socks for soldiers, they may soon begin to knit chic stockings, designed in the manner of golf stockings, for themselves.
