SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED
An enjoyable social evening, sponsored by the Wakari Soldiers’ Entertainment Committee, was hold in the Wakari School Hall. Members of tiro 4th Reinforcement Privates Ivan Hanna, D. Smyth, L. Hall, J. A. Thompson, V. Thompson, T. Matthews, D. "Whiteside, G. Kirkham, .1. Haugh, D. Topping, J. M'lntyre, and .1. Smith —wore tiro guests of honour. The evening was spent in dancing, and items were rendered by Miss F. Cubitt, Mr W. Harvey, and Mr A, Lungley. The music was supplied by Messrs Billings, Sheppard, and Joyce. Mr Lungley very ably conducted the community sing, which was enjoyed by everyone. Private Hanna obliged the audience with a bracket of songs which were much appreciated. The chairman (Mr J. Elliot), on behalf of tho residents of the district, conveyed to the soldiers the best wishes for their welfare and the best of luck, and presented each one with a chro-mium-plated mirror and _ cigarettes. Dancing was continued until midnight, when Mr Elliot moved a hearty vote of thanks to the entertainers, and a pleasant evening concluded with the singing of ‘ Wish Me Luck ’ and ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’
