STRAY DOGS.

to mu EDITOR. Sir.—Although o:io docs nol like lo he always complaining, me number of stray ilogs in Dunedin is beyond ail bounds. These imtoiTuuale animals have no home and no master. 1 fail to see what use dogs are in a eily ai all, unless it is to annoy all and sundry and frighten the .life out of little children. In these days of fast moving vehicles, a dog has to be very quick and lieet-ioolcd to avoid being run over. Only yesterday i witnessed a dog killed outright by a motor lorry, and later in the evening one was hit by a motor car. It was pathetic to listen u> (lie wads of this poor animal. 1 maintain that the place for dogs is in tlie country, where there is work for them to do. On a fine Sunday afternoon on Ihe St. Clair beach I have counted no fewer titan eighl dogs having the time of their lives. To listen lo the. barks and yelps of these excited animals was truly aggravating and l.cvmenling. If the Society fer (lie Prevention of CTuellv to Animals could round up anil collect'all (he si ray dogs Unit roam around Dunedin, that society would earn the gratitude and heartfelt thanks of scores of taxi and lorry drivers. —1 am, ole., November 26.
