CANADIAN WAR PRODUCTION BIG PROGRAMME MAKES EXCELLENT PROGRESS OTTAWA, November 25. (Received November 26, at 10.50 a.m.) Tiio Munitions Department announced that the production of high explosives exceeds by one-third the full output scheduled for the middle of 1941, The work entailed the construction of 15 plants, several being comparable with any throughout the Empire. Over 10,1X10 wore employed in the construction.
The present programme provides all the necessary materials to (ill all the shells, bombs, and mines manufactured in Canada, and permits the export of large quantities of explosives and chemicals overseas or to the United States. All projects should bo under production in July. Mr C. D. Howe said the deliveries of single-engined training planes will bo completed 15 months ahead of schedule. After January the companies will be enabled to devote their full facilities to the manufacture of other types. PELEW TO FORMOSA NEW JAPANESE AIR SERVICE TOKIO, November 25. (Received November 26, at 9.25 a.m.) The Domei Agency 'announces the opening of an air line linking Pelew Island, in the Carolines, with Tamsui, in north ; Formosa. The first round trip has been completed. The fiight from Pelew occupied 10J hours. JAPANESE AMBASSADOR APPOINTMENT TO SPAIN TOKIO, November 25. (Received November 26, at 9.5 a.m.) The Foreign Office Spokesman, Mr Yakichiro Suma,’ has been appointed Ambassador to Spain. BRITISH SHIPS TORPEDOED WARSHIP RESCUES SURVIVORS LONDON, November 24. Nine Dutch refugees and 20 seamen were lost when the Eurymedon (British, 6,223 tons) was torpedoed in the Atlantic. A warship picked up 64 survivors, of whom 19 were passengers. The warship also picked up 56 survivors from the torpedoed Sulairia (British, 5,802 tons). ADMIRAL NOMURA NEW AMBASSADOR TG WASHINGTON TOKIO, November 25. (Received November 26, at 1.15 p.m.) The Foreign Office has announced the appointment of Admiral Kichisaburo Nomura, former Foreign Minister, as Japanese Ambassador to Washington. The appointment is subject to confirmation by Cabinet to-morrow. AIRMAN V.G. RECEIVES DECORATION FROM KING (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 25. (Received November 26, at 11.40 a.m.) Flight-lieutenant J. B. Nicholson, aged 23 years, a fighter pilot, received from the King this morning the Victoria Cross awarded him for bravery when, although wounded and his plane on fire, he remained in the burning aircraft and attacked and shot down an enemy fighter. . Plight - lieutenant Nicholson received burns and was in hospital for some time. The King had a long talk with the airman in the private audience chamber, where the investiture took place.
