SUCCESSFUL HOLIDAY

PERFECT WEATHER EXPERIENCED LARGE CROWD OUT OF DOORS If the year had been combed it would have been impossible to have selected a better day for tho King’.s Birthday holiday than yesterday turned out to be. Brilliant sunshine, clear skies, and an almost complete absence of wind resulted in all outdoor resorts being heavily supported. The record crowds which attended the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s second day of the spring meeting were reflected in almost every locality around Dunedin. Tho Gardens were thronged from morning until late at night, while all beaches were exceptionally well patronised, the crowds at Tomahawk in particular being among the largest ever seen there. Bathing, however, was not greatly indulged in, due to the coldness of the water. Train traffic was heavy, and in addition to those who had loft earlier in the week-end, the seaside train yesterday carried 200 from the city. Approximately 500 returned on the 8.8 last night. The after-races specia] for Invercargill took away about 450 passengers, and some 350 came in on the 5.1 p.m. express from Christchurch. Bus and tram services were busy. The Portobello marine aquarium drew a record number of visitors by the rail and ferry route via Port Chalmers. Tho steamer Tarewai and the launch Miro convoyed a total of 784 passengers to the various trips connecting with the trains from Dunedin. Motorists did not venture far afield, most of them nursing their coupons for the Christmas vacation. Short runs to such places as Taieri Mouth, Warrington, down the Bay, Bnckland’s Crossing, Evansdale, etc., wore most favoured.
