[From Ode Correspondent] PERSONAL. At this week’s meeting of the Tokomairiro I. Lodge opportunity was taken by P.G Bro. J. N. Clark to present P.D.D.G.M. Bro. J. F. Morris with a goldmounted fountain pen in recognition of Ins services as secretary to tho lodge for th» past 13 years. A LUCKY ESCAPE. Arrested at Clinton on Wednesday evening, Thomas Francis Hill appeared before Messrs J. R. Copland and J. W.' Fenton, J. at Balclutha yesterday morning on a charge of being idle and disorderly. Constable M'Cormack said the accused was very fortunate to be alive. He had camped iii a public works whare at Clinton. Ho had been drinking heavily, and had taken to methylated spirits. He lit a fire in th« whare and then dozed off to sleep Soma rubbish on the floor caught alight, the fire spread, and the canvas wall at one end of the whare was completely burned. The accused had spent a considerable portion of his life in gaol for various offences; in all ho had 37 previous convictions. A sentence of three mouths’ imprisonment was imposed^, A SHARP FROST. A very sharp frost was experienced throughout South Otago on Wednesday night, with the result that early potatoes were blackened and withered, and have received a severe setback. Tomato and marrow plants also suffered.
