SPITFIRE FUND

£225 AT COMMUNITY SINC Hearty support was accorded tho community sing yesterday for the Spitfire Fluid. When promised donations come in it is estimated that the effort will result iu about £225 being collected. Tim usual leaders were present,' and the singing was of a high standard. The biggest attraction was provided by the New Zealand Air Force Band, which, under the command of Flightlieutenant Gladstone Hill, and by permission of the Minister of Defence, played from the station to tho theatre. It also played outside the theatre, a gesture which was much appreciated by the committee, for the public were not slow to show a response. Miss Margaret Pratt sang ‘Lords of the Air 1 and ‘ Love's Old Sweet Song.’ She was escorted to the stage by Lewin Groves, aged five, who was in full-dress Air Force uniform. He presented Miss Pratt with a bouquet in the form of an aeroplane, and was himself presented with two boxes of chocolates. Miss Pratt’s singing brought two donations, one of £lO and one of £5, and other donations ranged as high as £2O, from a lady who is a regular supporter. A number of articles could not be sold for lack of time, and these will bo offered next week, when the sing will bo bold with tho same object in view.
