THE AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY OF OTAGO

FANCY DRESS BALL The Strand Salon was the scene of a very pleasant function on Saturday evening, when the Australian Society concluded its winter activities with a fancy dress ball. The president (Mr A.' A. Paape) and Mrs Paape received the guests in the lounge, which was tastefully arranged with large bowls of tulips and bluegurns. Many beautiful and many humorous costumes were worn. Mr J. R. Sewell carried out the duties of M.C. A _ specially bright feature of the evening were the delightful dance- numbers in costume contributed by the Misses Stewart (2), and P. Holland,

and the cowboy songs in costume by Master E. Edwards. A Monte Carlo waltz was won bv Mr and Airs R. M'Neil.

The prize for the most original lady’s costume went to Miss C. Holland, for the most humorous costume to Mrs A. Alloo (a schoolgirl), and Airs Geo. Edwards (an old Scotsman). Air J. R.
