SKELTERS FOR PETS
There is general satisfaction that the pets are to havo air raid shelters of their own (says the ‘ Weekly Scotsman ’). At the moment shelters to accommodate 80 dogs are in process or being built in Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. There will be emergency arrangements whereby dogs will be cared for while their owners are in nearby shelters where animals are not allowed. Wardens arc being trained to look after dogs during air raids. Experience shows that dogs are more disturbed by the sirens than by gun fire or bombs, while cats in their infinite wisdom are quite indifferent to all three! Perhaps this is the one occasion when women might like to emulate the feline species. When passing through Victoria Station on Sunday I was astonished to hear gay tunes being relayed through loudspeakers. This innovation is for the benefit of members of the Services who may have to wait at the station for an hour or two. Judging by the pleased expressions all round the idea would appear to be a good one. Popular tunes with a lilt in them are the order of the day.
