Tlie November meeting of the Dunedin central branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was hold on Tuesday. Mrs Hiett presided and conducted devotional services in which she gave some encouraging thoughts suitable to the trying times the Empire is passing through. A warm welcome was extended to Mrs Keen, a visiting W.C.T.U. member from Auckland. A resolution was carried to be sent to the Government protesting against the number of art unions and raffles being carried on in the Dominion, union members expressing the opinion that gambling deteriorated national character. Grateful thanks were extended to members and friends who had generously contributed to the funds of the union to help to provide cakes and scones for soldiers’ teas at the Anzac Club during Labour Day week-end. Members wore grateful to hear that Miss Elsie Andrews, M.8.E., had been appointed Dominion organiser for the W.C.T.U. Miss Andrews is an outstanding speaker and conversant with national and international affairs, being a member of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Union. Tho thanks of the members were extended to Mrs W. Wright, of Kcw, who has

kindly given the use of her home for a “ bring-and-buy sale ” and social afternoon to be held on November 20. It was arranged to have a sale of useful goods to augment the union’s funds in the Hanover Baptist Hall on November 14, and members wore asked to send in saleable articles. Travel Club. The speaker at the Travel Club’s morning tea reception at the Savoy on Wednesday next will be Miss A. M, Moncrieff, M.A. (Y.W.C.A. secretary in China). The hostesses will bo Mrs Douglas Barton and Mrs G. M. Aikman. “ Bring and Buy ” Sale. Mr and Mrs Philip Barling will hold a “ bring and buy ” sale on Saturday next in the lovely grounds of Glenfalloch, in aid of the building fund of St, Aidan’s Church, Macandrew Bay. Stalls of all kinds will be stocked and afternoon tea served. Buses will leave Dunedin at 2,3, and 4, and will return to suit patrons.
