‘HALLOWEE'N ’
In ancient times Druids celebrated Hallowe'en with lioly fires, burnt offerings, and superstitious observances. Such fancies as witches, goblins, warlocks, elves, and fairies were supposed to hold high revels under no less a personage than “ Old Nick ” himself. In later years Hallowe'en took the form of an evening given over to games, dancing, and feasting. To-day these games are not kept up to the same extent, but Hallowe’en is remembered by the Dunedin Burns Club by entertainments of an unusual type. On Saturday next, in His Majesty's Theatre, 1 Hallowe’en at Hazeldeau ’ will be presented by a strong cast, humour being the keynote. Mirth and brightness for two hours ii assured patrons.
