The scene was the commanding officer’s room at an 11.A.F. home station, whore a National Defence Company was on guard duty. A private of the N.D.0.. who had refused to do a certain duty, was on tbs carpet. “ And why did you refuse?” asked the officer. “ The others were swinging it on to me. sir.” replied the private. “ because 1 was the youngest.” “ How old are you?” “Sixty-two, sir.”
