SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The 1940 skating season was brought to a conclusion last Saturday night at the De Luxe Kink before a large attendance of skaters and spectators. The Olago championship trophies and New Zealand Skating Association bronze and silver medals won during the season were presented by Mr J. Walker, official judge for the New Zealand Roller Skating Association in Dunedin. The manager of the De Luxe Kink (Mr G. S. Bright) briefly outlined the progress made in skating during the season, and mentioned that five events at the New Zealand championships this year were won by Dunedin skaters, also that the youngest holder of the bronze medal came from here. Many of Dunedin’s skaters are at present serving in the forces, and its first casualty in the war was one of the most promising amongst the young skaters. The championship winners and silver and bronze medallists are:— Otago ladies’ solo championship, Miss Flora M'Rae; Otago men’s solo championship, Mr I. R. Bright; Otago dance pairs championship—Mr and Mrs R. Greene 1, Miss I. Hardie and J. Bolton 2. Silver Medallists.—Misses Wendy Grcenslade, M. Gillies, P. M’Rae, Jean M’Nulty, V. C. Flood, Natalie Creagb. Bronze Medallists.—Misses Beryl Bradley. Joan M’Culloch, Beverley Brown, Nancy Lauder, Beryl Fraser, Peggy Stanton, C. Pagonis, Dorothy Clydesdale, Audrey Smith, Barbara Dagg, V. Mercer, Ngaire DOIIII, FJvina Barbeau, Mrs M. Thvop, Misses A. Smith, D. Courtney. K. K. Morris, B. C.' Napier, J. Bolton, F,. J. Tomlins.
