THE WIVES SUFFER
CRIME'S PENALTIES [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 5. Sentencing Robert William Bell Stiles ( 45), on breaking entering and allied charges in the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Ostler said counsel had made a strong plea. It was based mainly on the fact that the punishment Tepuld fall on the prisoner’s wife. The sad thing about crime was that the women had to bear the brunt of it. He felt ha would' be betraying the public interest if he were to admit Stiles to probation. He imposed reformative detention for a period not exceeding 18 months. Douglas Martin Small (21), who appeared with Stiles, was committed to the Borstal for a period not exceeding two years.
