[Prom Our Correspondent] PERSONAL. Private Reg. Hood, who has been on leave, was, prior to his departure from Milton, entertained at a surprise party at the residence of his parents, and presented with an envelope of notes. Ho was also met by the mayor and mayoress (Mr and Mrs W. J. Cockburn) and presented with a razor and pair of socks from the Patriotic Committee. Gunner G. Park, of Benhar, was tendered a farewell social by the residents, when Mr B. Harraway (chairman of the Patriotic Committee) presented him with a wellfilled wallet. BOWLING. Kaitangata and Milton Clubs met at Milton on Saturday in the first match of the South Otago Centro competitions. Scores (Kaitangata skips first): —C. Pennell 21, J. Campbell 14; W. Park 16, J. Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club was held on Saturday night, when it was stated that every member of the club of military age had enlisted for service, and was either in camp or waiting to go. The following office-bearers were elected;—President, Mr R. Flett; vice-presidents—Messrs P. M. Keppel S, Saunders, A. V. M’Lcod, A. M'Leod, W. Kirby, W. Wright, L. Burn, ■I. U. Wilson, H. Cowie; committee— Messrs W. Wright, R. Martin, A. Carter, H. Whitaker, 11. Cowie; secretary, Mr C. Keppel; assistant secretary, Mr R. Martin; auditor, Mr J. Murray; club captain, Mr J. Healey; deputy-captain, Mr R. Martin; starter and handicapper, Mr R. Carter; timekeepers—Messrs Wright, J. Glenn, and Cowie; judges, Messrs T. Quill and Buchanan; delegate to the Otago Centre, Mr H. Emmerson (Dunedin). It was decided to carry on in the coming season and to work iii with the new Kaitangata Club. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES. At the half-yearly meeting of the South Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes. Mrs Jas. Gray (Milton) presided. Welcomes were extended to Mrs Shorer (of Eastern Southland) and Mrs A. H. Gillingham (of Fairlie, organiser of the South Island women’s group travel parties). The financial statement showed a credit balance of £2B lOs 4d. Eighteen delegates answered the roll-call. Mrs H. Cooksley was reelected the South Otago representative on the Dominion Council. Mrs A. T. Harris made an appeal for donations of cash, fruit, and clothes for the children’s health camp, to be held at Pounawea from January 4 to February 4. Mrs Shorter gave an address on the aims and objects of the institute, and Mrs Cooksley reported on the recent Dominion Council meeting. Mrs Gillingham outlined the working of the group travel parties, and Mrs J. Mathieson was appointed organiser for South Otago group travel parties
