MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the City Council held last night .was attended by the mayor (Mr A. H. s.llen) and Crs D, C. Cameron, W. H. Borrie, John Wilson, M. H. Hendeson, R. Permission to screen pictures on Christmas Day at the Octagon, State, and Grand Theatres, was sought by Amalgamated Theatres Ltd. It was agreed to, provided that, as in a previous instance, the programmes be submitted to the mayor and the town clerk for their approval. ST. KILDA TRAM SERVICE. A letter from the town clerk of St. Kilda forwarding a copy of the resolution passed at a meeting of that council to tjie effect that the Government be petitioned to vary or amend the present Order in Council covering the tram service at St. Kilda was received.” WATER SUPPLY. While endorsing the remarks of Cr Walls, that householders should be sparing in the use of water, the Mayor congratulated the Water Department on the fact that, in spite of three or four mouths of exceptionally dry weather, the diminution in the supply only amounted to about seven per cent. The figures amounted to 10,600,000 gallons out of a total of 143,600,000. TWO NEW GENERATORS. Cr Cameron, moving the adoption of the Electricity Committee’s report, expressed the gratification of the committee and the engineers at the fact that two big generators, each weighing 131 tons, had arrived safely from England, and were now in the station-house at Waipori. MORNINGTON SWIMMING BATH. 'A proposal to construct a children’s swimming bath at Mornington, embodied in the report of the Reserves Committee was withdrawn. It will be again considered by the committee in the light of representations from residents that a full-size bath should be constructed.
