UNDERWORLD LEADER SHOT

FRUITLESS SEARCH FOR WEAPON Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, November 1. A week ago Henry Slater, a former leader of Sydney’s underworld, was shot dead when about to join a tram at Yarrabay. The affair was witnessed by a youth, who declares that the murdered decamped on a bicycle. The scene of the murder is about eight miles south of the city, in the vicinity of Botany Bay, and chiefly consists of scrubland. To-day it was combed by 50 police, whose search for the weapon was fruitless, but the expedition encountered no fewer than 30 venomous snakes of varying lengths and colours. All were killed.
