“DEEP IN THOUGHT"
A SIGNALMAN'S FATE A verdict of “ accidental death ” was recorded at Romford on Henry Frederick A. Ward, a twonty-three-year-old signalman employed by the London-Midlaml-Scottish Railway. He was knocked down and killed by an approaching train while walking along the line to His signal box at Upminster. Evidence was given that Ward was walking with his head down, carrying a respirator and helmet. When Ward realised where he was lie diveejj in an effort to avoid tho train, but just failed to clear it. Tho coroner, Mr 1,. F Heecle, remarked that Ward was evidently lost to the world at that particular time. “ being verv deep in thought about something tbev knew nothing about.”
