ESTIMATES FOR ENSUING YEAR CONSIDERED BY BOARD A special meeting of the Harbour Board was held on Thursday evening, those attending' being Messrs J. B. Waters (chairman), W. Begg, D. Copland, R. Walls, J. Wf Munro, M.P., P. E. Tyson, D. F. H. Sharpe, J, H. Duncan, W- R. Clarke, A. Smith, and J. Preston. The Finance Committee submitted the estimates of revenue and expenditure for the ensuing year, the estimated revenue being £156,800 and the expenditure £171,403. The total revenue for the year ended September 30, 1940, including subsidies and hire of dredge Otakou, etc., was £196,156, and the expenditure £196,222. It was recommended that the estimated shortage be made up by utilising the balance (£5,450) brought forward from last year and by transferring £IO.OOO from the special works reserve fund. - It was reported that the expenditure had been curtailed to reasonable requirements, but without any drastic reductions. The committee’s recommendations were adopted. WAGES INCREASE. The board decided, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, that the wages of those officers, other than the executive' officers, who did not participate in the 5 per cent, increase in award wages recently granted by order of the Court of Arbitration should be increased by 5 per cent, as from Autnnt 12 last. Eleven officers were affected. p ; A further recommendation adopted by the board covered the question of donations, and a grant of £25 was made to the Otago Expansion League, and a further £75 (making £150) to the Otakou Maori Centennial memorial. Other regular donations and subscriptions were limited to a total of £lll. Consideration of various requests for adjustments to wharfage rates was deferred until the time was more opportune for a revision of dues.
