A very successful tea party was held on Wednesday afternoon by the Y.ALC.A, Ladies' Auxiliary to raise funds for a swimming pool at the hoys’ camp. The president, Mrs Asfin, presided. A dainty afternoon tea was served, and a musical programme given, which was very much appreciated.

On Tuesday last, at the Tudor Hall, members of the executive of the MidOtago Federation of Women’s Institutes had the pleasure of entertaining at morning tea Airs A. H. At tho closing meeting of the Caversham branch of the League of .Mothers, on Thursday afternoon Airs ALCracken presided and welcomed representatives from other branches, also tho provincial president, Airs G. H. Seddon. Opening numbers on tho programme wore given by tho Opoho Ladies’ Choir, after which two humorous elocutionary items by Aliss Heather Smith were enthusiastically received. Thereafter the programme was in the capable hands of Mrs Carson, and the ensuing choral items, vocal solos, and pianoforte solos comprised a feast of music of high standard and executive ability. Vocal solos given by Mesdames Hinton and Henderson, and pianoforte solos by Airs Blackman, who also acted as accompanist throughout the afternoon. Airs

A very pleasant afternoon was spent on Tuesday at the Leith Bowling Club’s green, when the ladies’ section opened the season for play. .Progressive doubles were played, tho winners being Airs D. Hutchison (skip) and Airs Abnrn (lead) ; consolation prizes went to Airs Birred and Airs Eborhardt. The president (.Mrs Allies) donated and presented the prizes. A dainty afternoon tea was served. The Central branch of the League of .Mothers met in the Y.ALC.A. Assembly Hall on Thursday afternoon, Airs AL G. Black presiding Airs W, I). G. Hartley (vice-president) gave a very interesting talk on ‘ 'These Children of Ours.’ Airs E. N. Alerrington sent, in the following thought: ‘‘A house is sanctified by love into a home.” During tho afternoon, Mrs Eustace sang two delightful solos. Mrs R. S. Anderson returned thanks to the speaker and soloists, after which afternoon tea was dispensed. The ladies of the St. Leonards-Biirkes Patriotic Committee held their monthly social afternoon on Tuesday, when Airs Hill Scully presided over a good attendance. The speaker for the afternoon was Aliss Moran, who gave a talk on English embroidery through the ages. At the conclusion some fine samples of the work of the pupils of King Edward 'technical College were displayed. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Aliss .Moran for her verv interesting address. After a very busy time since its inception, the North Dunedin branch of the Lady Galway Guild is closing down till thii beginning of February. A great deal, of work has been accomplished by the many willing helpers. The opening of the Opoho Croquet Club was held on Wednesday afternoon in perfect weather The president (Mrs L. H Hendra) welcomed a large gathering of friends and members of sister clubs, and wished one and all a happy season. Mrs G. A. Nelson, representing the association, in a neat little speech wished the club every success. and also reminded members of the gala day, to be held next week, in aid of the Navy Queen, Mrs Mackisack presented bouquets to Mi's Hendra, Mrs Nelson, and Mi's Watson, with the good wishes of the club Mrs Nelson made the Hist hoop and declared the 1910-41 season open. Afternoon tea was served and games and competitions were enjoyed by everyone.

Some tune ago a number of ladies from the Dalmore and Libcrton districts formed a sewing guild to help relieve the distress caused by bombing in England. Most of the work done comprises warm underclothing for children, which is to bo given through the Red Cross The work is of a high standard, and nearly all the materials have been bought by the guild by means of a small donation by each member. A number of the members confine their activities to knitting for the Patriotic Guild. On Thursday night a display of the completed clothes was held in the Gladstone Presbyterian Church, and an auction of cakes, etc., which followed the supper, brought in some funds for next month’s materials.

Any ladies at the district who would like to assist in ihe work arc cordially invited to do so. Tim. guild meets every Thursday evening in the church.

The annual meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary was held on Monday evening; also present were members of the Mosgiel Auxiliary. -The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: President 'Mrs E. Aslin ; vice-presidents —Mesdames Arthur, Walker, liitchie, Stinson, and Paterson; secretary. Miss A. Ross; treasurer. Mrs Pinfold; publicity secretary, Mrs .Stinson ; sick visitor, Mrs Allan. Mrs liitchie moved a special vote of thanks to the president, secretary, and treasurer for very valuable work done. The Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors were entertained at supper by the ladles The president of the boaial (Mr L. Salmond) thanked the ladies, and spoke of the valuable work done by the auxiliary not only in the Y.M.C.A. bul for the soldiers in our midst.

Mrs E. .1. Waters presided over the monthly meeting of the Roxburgh Women’s Institute. The motto was “ Let us take time for all things good.” and the roll-call 41 A Scottish joke.” As the meeting was specially set apart as grandmothers’ day, each grandmother present received a small bouquet.
