FIRST BALLOT NEXT MONTH [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 27. A statement that the first ballot under conscription would probably be held next mouth • was made to-night by the Chief of the General Staff, Major-general Sir John Duigan, while addressing troops of the Auckland ’Battalion of the National Reserve, after inspecting them at the Drill General Duigan explained later that a ballot would be held in the near future to bring the Territorial force up to war establishment.
