THE BRITISH WORKERS
"PUTTING THEIR BACKS INTO IT 100 PER CENT." DETERMINED ON VICTORY [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 27. “ The spirit of the British people is marvellous, and they are determined on victory,” said Mr H. Campbell, secretary of the Auckland Painters Union, w r ho left New Zealand four months ago as the workers’ representative to the International Labour Conference in Geneva. While on his way he was advised that the conference had been abandoned. He spent a month in Britain and returned through the United States. He said British workers were putting their backs into it 100 per cent., working seven days a week to achieve victory, while the munitions works and clothing and boot factories were working night and day. Mr Campbell made a close survey of the working conditions in the United States, where all industries are working at high pressure, many in connection with war supplies. Mr Campbell is definitely of the opinion that New Zealand is the workers’ paradise.
