Court Bruce, A.0.F., celebrated its seventy-fifth anniversary with a special meeting and social evening in the Masonic Hall, Milton, last Saturday night. There was a large attendance, visitors being -present from Courts Little John (Roslyn), Marios (Mosgiel), and Molyneux (Balclutlia). These werev welcomed by the acting chief ranger, Bro. M. E. Paul; Greetings were conveyed from the district, congratulations being extended to the court on attaining its seventy-fifth anniversary. Bro. Paul gave an interesting resume of the career of the lodge since its formation on August 5, 1865. The opening ceremony was held in the White Horse Hotel, the District Lodge being represented by D.C.R. Bro. Ainsworth and other officers. Twenty-three candidates were initiated, and the first officers elected were; C.R., Bro. .fas. Daniels; S.C.R., Bro. E. Campbell; secretary. Bro. E. T. Dillon; treasurer, Bro. J. M. Bryce (later accepted in the same year by Bro. John Dickson) ; woodwards, Bros. G. Anderson and J. W. M'Millan,; beadles, Bros. J. Whytock ■ and W. M'Miilan. Dr Weber "was appointed lodge surgeon. Tho first anniversary of the court was celebrated in Bro. Capstick's White Homo Hotel. 40 members being present. O. Bro. John Holliek presided, and reference was made to the energy shown by Bro. Daniels. Reference to the history of the court would not bo complete without mention of the services rendered by the late Bro. John Dickson, who was secretary for 51 years and treasurer for 12 years—a unique record. A ladies’ court was formed in 1898, but this was later merged with the men’s court, and 11 years ago_ a juvenile branch was formed. It is interesting to note that Court Bruce was established within 12 months of the formation of the Otago District in 1864, when hero were only four courts in Otago—-two in Dunedin, one at Queenstown, and one at Port Chalmers. While other courts had gone out of existence, Court Bruce had flourished, and now had 188 benefit members and about 50 honorary members. In the first year tho number of members in Otago was 364. with funds of £73. Last vear the membership was 4,849 and funds £180,049. Bro. Paul congratulated the court on its 75 years of progress, and P. Bro. H. L. Thomson (Court Little John), C.R. Sister M. Thomson (Court Marion), and C.R. Bro. Keach (Court Molyneux) also extended congratulations. P.C.R. Bro. E. J. Gibb and Bro. T. H. Russell (the oldest member present) added their tribute and best wishes. At the conclusion of tho meeting a dance was held, the music being provided by Mr W. Taylor and Airs S. Lambert, assisted by the Rhythm Boys. Bros. Lambert and F Read were M.C.s, and at intervals songs were contributed by Master Ray Gibson (Dunedin) and Bro. T. Roberts, while Miss Myrtle Allison rendered bagpipe selections. I.P.C.R. Bro. C. D. Stewart expressed the appreciation of tho members of the court to all who had assisted in making tho evening an enjoyable one.
