WHIPPET RACING
MOTES AND COMMENTS [By Observer.] The Dunedin Whippet Racing Chib b«ld a successful meeting last Saturday. There was a large attendance, and racing was keen. Mr C. N. Unwm s Hot Chance won a double and Mr A. Keenan was successful in .winning three races. The Puppy Cup went to Mr R. Stewart. The meeting was run under ideal weath ?Kght n Queen, owned by Mr J. M'Mullan, ran a good race last Saturday, centring the amount of work she has had since being badly injured. This dog, .at her best, takes some stopThe Milton dog. Sergeant-major, owned 'by Mr Robinson, is a speedy pup. but has not had sufficient track work. The misfortune of being so far away is a great handicap to this dog. •A* new member of the club, Mr ROollins. raced his dog, Osborne Beauty, last Saturday. With a little less condition this dog sho'uld soon be saluting the judge. „ , . , At the present time Mr W. Guthrie s Tamerlane is having a spell, but will be put into training later. ran a good race. Irish Fling, from the same kennels, was unfortunate in hitting a post, which put him out of the running. A big asset to the club is the ladies committee, which lias worked hard running euchre parties, and the members have the thanks of the club for managing so capably the social side of its affairs. Mr W. Winchester has a good hurdle dog in Doctor Jim. At present this dog is a little track shy, but with a little more experience over the jumps he will be in the limelight. Mr J. Manly’s Granvin looked a picture last Saturday. This dog always finishes well, but he left his,,run too late in the middle-weight. Mr W. Sherwill did not start Gin Sling at the meeting, but she will be in the maiden and novice races on Saturday. The open hurdle race, won by Gingei Jack, concluded the day’s sport. This race was n*ost exciting for the spectators, for it is always interesting to watch the does flying the hurdles. Mr B. M'Kinlay came second in the Open Handicap with Phantom Gold. This dog is well overdue for a win, and her turn must come shortly. Gappy Ricks’s win was no surprise to his owner. Mr G. Campbell, as this dog was doing good track work beforehand. The club will hold a special meeting next Saturday, for which a good programme has been drawn up.
