RECENT REDUCTIONS REVIEWED PETROL SAVING GREATER THAN ESTIMATED The Transport Committee of the City Council reports that Ahe amended bus services recently approved by the council in response tp the Government’s request to conserve fuel'supplies were put into effect'on July 27. ■ A preliminary survey of the mileage nowrun discloses that the’ saying effected will be greater' than that estimated. ■ A number of requests from residents affected by these amendments have been considered,' and authority has been granted to make further adjustments. The Dalmore and Pine Hill Districts Ratepayers and. Householders’ Association has submitted a request for a reinstatement of a number of trips between Frederick street and the bridge between 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m., and for this the association offers to forgo two trips between the bridge and Dalmore. As. no extra fuel will be required by ( this arrangement, the transport manager has been authorised to act. A petition has also been received from 38 employees of the Hillside Workshops requesting a reinstatement of the 4.30 p.m. bus from the Hillside Workshops to Kaikorai Valley via Glen road. They point out tjiat the bus required for this trip has to proceed from the sheds to take up running from Kaikorai Valley, and, since the withdrawal of the service from Hillside, now travels empty. As the extra mileage involved in granting the request is less than one mile per day, the request has been granted and the transport manager has been authorised to act.
