(Received August 10, at 5 p.m.) More than a score of times since the outbreak of war high-speed launches of tht R.A.F. Coastal Command have been sent out to rescue Gorman airmen adrift in the sea alter being shot down. Often on these occasions those small boats have bad to face violent weather and a uumber of times stayed out at sea for 24 hours. On Thursday one of the R.A.F. launches went into the English Channel to rescue the survivors of a sinking merchant ship. It must have been obvious that it was acting as a lifeboat. Nevertheless, German aircraft came down low and machine-gunned the launch. The crew carried on, however, and completed its rescue of the seamen.
