[FiiOii Qua Correspondent] V • - ■ J LAWRENCE YOUNG FARMERS’ ' CLUB. There was a good attendance at the Young Farmers’ Club meeting. Mr John Walker occupied the chair. A letter was received from the VVaitahuna Commonage Trustee Committee stating that at present It had no laud suitable for the planting of trees. The Tuapeka Domain Board wrote granting the club the right to plant small ornamental trees and shrubs in an area netted off on the Reservoir Hill reserve. An attempt is to be made, as m past years, to prepare a short talk to be broadcast over 4YA' on some farm subject. Members considered many subjects, and' it was decided to try ‘ How To Increase Production, and. What It Means to New Zealand and the Empire.’ It was decided to donate to the Red Cross appeal the sum of £6, to be divided between the Lawrence and_ Waitahuna branches. f GENERAL. A “ Clothes Drive ” was held by the Roxburgh Patriotic Committee, the object being to procure clothes and material for refugees. The appeal met with an excellent response, and articles of every description have been received. Besides cash in hand the secretary (Mrs F. J. Laloli) has an excellent supply of goods, and these were forwarded to headquarters on Friday last. Plans for the‘erection of a budding at Roxburgh for a children’s health camp wevap approved at a meeting of the King George V. Memorial Fund Board, held in Wellington on Tuesday. This camp, which will be one of a chain throughout the Dominion, wjll provide accommodation for 50 children. GOLF. LAWRENCE GIRL GUIDES. At the annual meeting of the Lawrence Girl Guides, the captain (Mrs R. C. Moore) reported on the year’s work: The Guides are greatly interested in knitting and getting things for refugees. The company consists of 10 members, all active Guides, who attend well and are keen to help things along. At the beginning of June, we in New Zealand received'a request from headquarters in England asking for our assistance in procuring an air ambulance for the R A.F., as they thought the dominions might like to help. This request was circulated throughout New Zealand to all Guides, past and present The response far exceeded expectations; £250 was our quota, but the amount received reached 'the grand total of £93(5. As the return has been so splendid, Dominion Headquarters has

decided to contribute £64 towards the exchange so that £BOO sterling may be paid to the Girl Guides’ Association, London. The election of officers resulted: President. Mrs W. G.
