JUSTICES OF THE PEACE ASSOCIATION

Tho members of the council of the Otago Justices of the Peace Association, accompanied by Begg’s Orchestra and Concert Party, paid a visit to the two mental hospitals. At Orakanui the party entertained the patients with orchestral items, songs were rendered by Mrs C. Searle, Miss.D. Darracott, tap dancing by Miss Joyce Todd, character song by Mr F White, while Mr Arthur Robertson entertained the patients with his singing of many old Scottish songs. At the conclusion of the entertainment Dr M'Lean, of Orakanni Home, thanked the justices and Mr Himburg for the evening’s entertainment. Messrs J. W. Patton and J. H. Himburg returned thanks on behalf of the justices and the orchestra respectively. The party then journeyed on to Seacliff Mental Hospital, and there gave another concert. Items , were given by Mrs C. Sear-le with orchestra accompanist, character songs by Mr F. White, tap dancing by Miss Joyce Todd, songs by Miss D. Darracott. Mr Arthur Robertson delighted his audience with many Scottish songs, and under his leadership the patients sang two hymns, ‘ Lead, Kindly Light,’ and ‘Abide With Me.’ The medical superintendent, Dr Brown, thanked the justices and Mr Himburg and his party for their comprehensive, concert, and suggested an early return. Mr J. W. Patton and Mr Himburg returned thanks.
