JAPANESE IRISES

Japanese irises, which are now being grown by many amateurs, should be well supplied with rich liquid manure during the dormant season, so that the plants can put together ample reserves to enable them to make a forceful and beautiful flowering. This method of management is followed by expert American growers, who handle large numbers of this beautiful family of ins. It is during the winter season that the plants store the necessary food reserves. Once the irises begin to make their new season’s flower stems the food ration is cut down and water only is supplied to them. Even plants growing adjacent to water should ■be well fed during their winter rest-time.
