ENGINEER FROM OTAGO
SERVING ON ARANDORA STAR WELL-KNOWN IN SPORTING CIRCLES Serving on board the Arandora Star on her ill-fated voyage was Engineer A. K. Mowat, son of Mr and Mrs A. N. Mowat, of Clydevale, and a brother of Mr J. C. Mowat, of Dunedin. No advice has yet been received whether lie was one of the survivors who reached British ports. Mr Mowat, who was born at Dunedin and educated at the Christian Brothers’ High School, gained engineering experience in Dunedin before entering the employment of the Union Steam Ship Company. For 18 months he was an engineer on board one of the company’s liners, and he then transferred to the HI tie Sta r Dine. He had been on 'the Arandora Star for sohie months, and recently stated in a letter that he was leaving on a special voyage, presumably the one that ended so disastrously. He plaved Rugby and cricket in Dunedin and also held a commission in the Otago Mounted Rifles. A younger brother of Mr Mowat is Acting Flight-lieutenant N. J. Mowat, who is serving with the Royal Air Force in a fighter squadron attached to the Coastal,. Command in Britain.
