LOCAL DE-SEEDIMG MACHINE SATISFACTORY FIFTY TO BE MANUFACTURED (Peb United Press Association.] BLENHEIM, J une 27. “ Close investigations and trials have proved the linen flax deseeding machine patented by Mr C. J. Lucas, a Blenheim farmer, to be 100 per cent, satisfactory,” stated Mr 11. B. Tennent, Director of Primary Production. “ Actually it is a superior machine to those which have been in use in Europe,” he said. “ The New Zealand Government intends to have approximately 50 machines manufactured immediately to cater for the deseeding operations where the crop is grown throughout the Dominion,” Mr Tennent paid a tribute to the pioneering work Mr Lucas and Mr L. C. Ohaytor had done 1 in connection with the linen flax industry. Following an address by Mr Tennent offers were made by farmers to grow a further 100 acres of flax, bringing the total in sight to 800 acres out of a total of 1,000 allocated to Marlborough for the coming season.
