ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
RUN OVER BY TRACTOR. As the result of being run over by • tractor, an elderly retired farmer, David James Young, residing in Colombo street, Christchurch, died in • hospital at Timaru yesterday. Mr Young was visiting his son-in-law, Mr H. Talbot, of Raugitira Valley. He went to assist Mr Talbot, who waa pinned against a shed when the tractor moved backwards.' When the traetor was started it was apparently in gear. Mr Talbot got clear and reached the gear lever ahead of Mr Young; whd was leaning over the machine. Apparently the gear lever was put forward instead of into neutral and Mr Young was dragged over, the machine passing over him. He was taken to hospital, where he died early yesterday morning, INFANT’S DEATH. The death occurred in the Public Hos. pital yesterday afternoon of .an infanl named Beverley Dawn Dickens, aged three years and five months, wbo resided with her , parents at 27 Hyda street. She was admitted to the institution in a distressed condition and died at 4.15. The inquest was opened to-day before the coroner (Mr J. 11. Bartholomew, S.M.). Detective-sergeant Hall represented the police, and after evidence of identification had been given by the child’s father, Leslie Joseph Dickens, the coroner ordered a post mortem examination, the inquest being adjourned sine die.
