GENEROUS MASONS
FREE LOAN OF £IO,OOO GIFT OF £5,000 [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The Board of General Purposes of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand, its chief administrative body, resolved at a meeting held yesterday to recommend to the Grand Lodge that an interest-free loan of £IO,OOO be made to the Government for the period of the duration of the war and six months after. Further, the board resolved upon a gift of £5,000 to the National Patriotic Council. This amount is to be allocated as follows: —£2,500 for the general purposes of the patriotic fund and £2,600 for the relief of the sick and wounded and distressed. The Grand Master, Mr O. J. Ronaldson, in announcing these decisions to the Grand Lodge last evening, said these dispositions would be further proof to the world that Freemasonry took an active part in furthering the welfare of countries in which it resided.
