MUSICAL RECITAL

PUPILS OF MISS M. EAGAR

A large and appreciative audience attended the Jubilee Hall on Saturday night, when the pupils of Miss Muriel Eagar presented a varied and interestin'l' programme. The choir numbers, < Over the Rainbow ’ and ‘ Wish Me Luck,’ were exceptionally good, giving every evidence of careful training. The part song, .‘Tales from the Vienna Woods,’ which opened the second halt of the programme, was delightfully sung, Maureen Keenan taking the solo part. Recitations were given by Valmai Gilmopr, Elaine Maddigan, and Graham Mackenzie. Piano solos, ranging from the beginners to the more advanced pupils, were competently played by Shirley Liston, Joyce Taylor, Heather Mackay, Gloria Foots ( The Teddy Bears’ Picnic’), and Valerie Reid (‘To the Rising Sun ’ b v Torgussen). ‘ Scenes from Childhood was a charming presentation in costume by the junior pupils, whose singing and acting were much enjoyed by the audience. The vocal work of the performers proved excellent, ana some promising voices were heard to advantage. Items were given by Lorna Ryan (‘ The Secret ’), Valmai Gilmour (‘ Mother Nature’s Lullaby ’), Maureen Keenan (‘ Jane’s Big Umbrella ), Gloria Foots (‘Peter Wendy h Miss Lorna Hendry ( Calling for You’), Miss Patricia Elliott (‘ln an Old-fashioned Town ’), Miss Patricia Ryan (‘ The Last Rose of Summer ) , Miss Hilda Paul (‘Love’s Valley ), and Mrs J. F. Mills (‘Love’s Old Sweet Song’). A duet in character, ‘ Animal Crackers,’ was sung by Dawn and Beverley Pool, and Valmai Gilmour and Maureen Keenan also presented a duet, ‘ The Lambeth Vi alk. Miss Joan Stewart proved an efficient a °Miss Pa Eagar is to be congratulated on the high standard attained by her pupils and on an excellent performance throughout. A collection was taken up for the Red Cross Society.
