NO SERIOUS NOTICE

PREMIER ON MR BARNARD’S. STATEMENTS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 15., Commenting on the remarks by Mr W. E, Barnard concerning the Council of Defence, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said that Mr Lee and Mr Barnard were co-opted to the council by Mr Savage. After the personal attack on Mr Savage in December last and the subsequent action taken by the Cabinet, the late Prime Minister considered it impossible to continue to hold meetings, hut the work of the council was carried out by the Ministers directly associated with war activities meeting in frequent consultation with the chiefs of staff. Subsequent events amply justified the Prime Minister’s action.

“ I propose to take no further serious notice of Mr Barnard’s statements,” Mr Fraser said, “ as apparently he is under the impression that everyone in the Labour Party is out of step but himself.” ■
