RETURNED SOLDIERS
ACTIVITIES OF R.S.A. POPPY DAY AND ANZAC DAY On Friday the annual Poppy Day appeal of. the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association will be carried out in the city and suburbs and country districts of the province. In the city and suburbs the lady collectors, who have again rallied enthusiastically to assist in this annual appeal, will commence the sale of poppies at 7 a.m., and will continue their efforts until 6 p.m. Throughout the province 58,000 poppies, made in the Dominion by disabled ex-servicemen, will be offered for sale, the small- ones at Is and the large size at 2s. Last year the association raised £2,661 in Otago, this being a record Poppy Day collection for New Zealand, and the whole of that amount has been expanded by providing relief for distressed ex-servicemen by way of work. The public has always responded generously to the appeal, and the committee is confident, that a. large, amount will be raised again, this year. r Arrangements have been made for a fitting observance of Anzac Day on April 25, and the Governor-General (Viscount Galway), who wjll be in Dunedin, will attend the dawn service at the fallen soldiers’ memorial at 6.30, the brief memorial service in the Queen’s Gardens at 2, and the main service in the Town Hall at 3. There will be the usual parade of military units and returned soldiers for the af-ternoon-services. Members of the public are asked to fly flags on Anzac Day. At 1.30 on Monday afternoon, April' 22, the Dominion president (Hon. W. Perry) will give a talk through stations 2YA and 4YA to, school children on the significance and meaning of Anzac Day, and branches of; the R.S.A. are asked to make this as widely known as possible among schools in their districts. The annual meeting of the Dunedin R.S.A. will be held in the club rooms at 7.30 on Tuesday evening, April 23. Ballot papers for the election of officebearers must be forwarded to the office not later than 9 a.m. on Monday, April 22, the day before the annual meeting, in _ order to allow the ing officer time to count the votes.
