HITLER DECEIVED MUSSOLINI
The Paris wireless reports ' that the twelfth volume of Mussolini’s speeches and writings has now been published. It contains the full text of a letter addressed by Mussolini to Lord Runciman last year, when the latter was trying to mediate in Czechoslovakia. The letter says:—.
“ If Hitler had designs on 3,500,000 Czechs Europe would be entirely justified' in its excitement and anxiety. But I can assure you in confidence that Hitler would not take the Czechs, even if they were offered to him. The Fuhrer is concerned with Germans, and with Germans only.”
The Paris wireless concludes first that this letter proves that Hitler misled even his closest ally, and, secondly, that the fact of this letter being published now is a significant indication of Mussolini’s present attitude.
