ANNUAL SPORTS GATHERING The Caledonian Society’s seventyseventh anniversary sports gathering will be held at the Caledonian Grounds on Saturday, March SO, and will mark the close of a very successful sports season. Several items should, prove of interest to the public. A special marathon race of 20 miles will be commenced at 12 o’clock, when G.. L. Austin, the New Zealand champion, C. G. Gibbons, ex-champion, and R. Wilson, of Gore, will compete in an attempt to break the present record of two hours dead time. This should) be completed just before the grand march past display given by the business interhouse teams. Keen rivalry is expected in all the interhouse competitions, as the various teams (have been holding constant practice for several weeks past. Several additional firms are entering teams this year,- and a spectacular display should he seen. Primary schools’ athletics, cycling, wrestling, and national dancing will be included on the programme. An advertisement in this issue announces two alterations in the female interhouso events, and a one mile walk handicap has been added to the,programme.
