‘HOUSE OF SEVEN GABLES’
NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE STORY The historic ‘ House of Seven Gables,’ at Salem, Mas?., will be reproduced in minute detail for Universal’s picturisation of ‘ House of Seven Gables,’ according to Jack Otterson, the studio’s art director. Otterson has just completed plans for the sets of the scenes within and outside the house which will be locations for a . greater part of the screen version ' of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s dramatic story of early nineteenth century New England. The plans were drafted from drawings and photographs which Otterson secured when he made a flying trip to Salem for that purpose. Tlie house, Hawthorne’s residence, has been standing since 1668, and is one of the finest examples of early American architecture to bo found in the country. Its design has served as a basis for the architecture of countless present and past day colonial-style homes.
Vincent Price, Margaret Lindsay, Nan Grey, George Sanders, Gilbert Emery, and Dick Foran have already been cast in the leading roles ■of the production.
