SUNDAY SERVICES
At First Church to-morrow communion services will be held at 11 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. These will be conducted by the Rev. W. Allen Stevely, whose subjects will lie ‘ Divine Grace ’ and ‘ The World’s, Hope.’ The evening anthem will be ‘ God So Loved the World.’ ; The services at Knox Church will be conducted, by the Rev, D. 0. Herron, whose evening subject will bo ‘ At Sea in a “ Black-out.” ’ A service will be hold in the church at 9 a.m. on Good Friday. The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be observed in St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church at the morning service, and a supplementary communion at the close of the evening service. In the morning the subject will be ‘ God’s Way and Ours,’ and the subject in the evening will be ‘ It is Finished.’ At both services the Rev. Thomas Miller will be the preacher. At the morning service of the Mosgiel Presbyterian Church Stainer’s ‘ Crucifixion'’ will bo rendered by the choir, assisted by Mr Leslie Dunbar (bass), Mr George Ross (tenor), and a quartet of men’s voices. Mr Jean Hendry will be at the organ, and Mr Clarence Pilling will conduct the choir. At the Maori . Hill Presbyterian Church the morning service will be conducted by Mr Howard Knight, of the China Inland Mission. In the evening selections from Stainer's ‘ Crucifixion ’ will be rendered bv the choir, the service being conducted by the Bov. A. C. W. Standage. There will be a service at Wakari at 7.30 p.m., and Sunday school at 10.30 a.m. Divine worship will bo conducted at Trinity Methodist Church, Stuart street, to-morrow morning and evening by the Rev. Basil Motson, whoso subjects will be ‘ Christ—the First and the Last ’ and ‘ The Young and Happy Christ.’ In the evening officers and members of the Tokotorn Lawn Tennis Club will attend. At 7 p.m. Trinity Choir will render Stainer’s ‘ Crucifixion,’ the soloists being Messrs Lionel Powell and Lex Macdonald. The services at the Central Mission will be conducted in the morning by tho Rev. T. Sknse, of St. Kilda, and in the evening by the Rev. Leslie B. Neale. The soloists at the evening service will be Miss Dorothy Sligo and Mr George Bridges. At the St. Kilda Methodist Church harvest festival services will ho hold. The speaker in the morning will bo the Rev. W. R. Francis, and the Rev. T. Slcusc in the evening. Cargill Road Methodist services will he conducted by the Rev. H. Ck Orchard.- At the evening service Faster music will be given by the choir and
Easter hymns sung. At St. Clair the Glen Avon Mission Hand will take the morning service, and the evening preacher is Mr P. Bridge. ' A performance of the oratorio, ‘The Passion of Christ,’ by the English composer, Arthur Somervell, will bo given in St. Matthew’s Church on Wednesday evening. The choir has been assiduously practising the choruses during the last two months, and the solos will bo in the capable hands of Mrs T. A. Tarrant, Miss M. Blackledge, Messrs Alfred Walmsley and R. L. Laureuspn. This beautiful devotional work by a modern composer should prove of great interest to* lovers of good music. The Rev. J. Ewen Simpson will conduct the services at the Hanover Street Baptist Church. The morning subject will be ‘ Pontius Pilate.’ In the evening the choir will present Sir John Stainer’s ‘ Crucifixion.’ Mr H. P. Desmoulins will conduct, Mr Ernest Drake will be the tenor soloist, Mr Ivan Jones the bass soloist, and Miss Pearl Westland the organist. The Rev. R.L. Fursdon will preach at Caversham Baptist Church. The morning subject is entitled ‘ Willing To Do God’s Will.’ At night the choir will render the Easter anthem, ‘ I Am He That Livcth.’ The morning address is ‘ Gethsemanc.’ The Communion of the Lord’s Supper will he observed at the close of the service. Divine -worship will he conducted by the Rev. John H. Harris at Moray Place Congregational Church. 'The morning service will ho broadcast, and at the evening service Bach’s ‘ St. Luke Passion ’ will he sung by the choir. The soloists will he Miss Agnes Guv, Messrs V. B. Smith and J. IJ. M'Kcchnie. The organist and choirmaster will he Mrs H. C. Campbell. At the Spiritualist Church, St. Andrew street, the subject discussed will he ‘ Rearing the Burden.’ A demonstration of spiritual clairvoyance by Sister Swift will he given. The meetings tin’s Sunday at the Dunedin City Corps of the Salvation Army will be conducted by the local officers. Next Sunday (Easter') a special announcement is made in connection with the visit of Colonel (Padre) Walls. At the Greater World Spiritual Mission, King street, at 6.30, there will he harvest thanksgiving. Mrs G, Brooks and Mrs Page will conduct the services, the subject being ‘Sowing and Reaping.’ Clairvoyance and the after circle will follow.. At the Theosophical Society Mr J. M. M'Ewan will continue his lectures on ‘ The Duties, Rights, and Privileges of Man.’
