MONTHLY MEETING DF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon. The president (Mr J. M. Fraser) was in the chair.
The chairman referred to the loss the society had sustained by the deaths of Mr T. S. Little (Corriedale), Mr R. G. Hudson (Dunedin), Mr A. F. Morrison (Dunedin), and Mr T. Hewitt (Goodwood). He said Mr Little, as one of the earliest and most constant exhibitors at the society’s shows, had rendered service to the • society and agriculture generally which well merited his appointment last year as a life member. After expressing the committee’s sympathy with the relatives, members stood in silence as a mark of respect to their memory. The finance committee reported having considered accounts amounting to £225 4s 7d, and recommended them for payment. The bank balance' was £ll3 8s 2d in credit, and outstanding cheques amounted to £2O 17s 2d. —The accounts were passed for payment. The date of the annual meeting was set for May 31 and the agenda approved. The annual report and balance sheet were left to the president, treasurer, and secretary to finalise when the accounts for the year were closed. Sub-committees in charge of the various sections met at 1.30 p.m., prior to the General Committee meeting, to revise the Winter Show schedule, and the recommendations of these committees were adopted. Donations of special prizes were recieved with thanks, and the presidentexpressed the committee’s appreciation of the generous assistance of the donors which contributed jargely to the success of the competitive classes at the show.
Suggestions for attractive displays for the show were considered, and it was decided if possible to get a Centennial display from th© exhibition, and it was noted that negotiations were already in hand for the New Zealand Wool Committee’s Exhibition display.
The secretary reported that arrangements had been made for the Winter Horse Fair to be held on June 5 to coincide with the show.
Mr A. Templeton was nominated as a member of committee for the Dunedin district to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr S. Bow-man. The secretary was appointed as the society’s delegate to the Royal Agricultural Society’s annual meeting and to the conference of agricultural and pastoral societies to be held in Wellington in July. Messrs Dalgety and Co., wrote offering the use of their No. 2 store for the show as in previous years, and the secretary was instructed to write and thank them for this continued assistance.
