Time, 3min Bsec. TRAINING NOTES INVERCARGILL AND RIVERTON [Special to the ‘Star.’] INVERCARGILL, March 14. A feature of the track proceedings at Invercargill this. morning was a, smart mile by the Great Autumn Handicap candidate. Sparkle. The weather was ideal, and the course proper provided good going. All the fast work was done on the course proper,’ 20ft out from the rails. Colonel Rouge and Spendthrift ran half a mile in Imin ,3 -4-ssec, the first furlongs in 12 3-ssec. Colonel Rouge broke away a couple of lengths ahead of Spendthrift, but the latter soon caught him, and they finished together with both doing their work particularly well. Sea Lady ran six furlongs in Imin 19 2-ssec, the last four in 54 2-ssec. The first two furlongs took 25sec, and she was stopping over the concluding stages.

The jumpers, Frenehy, El Caballo, and Baltrmn ran a mile and a-quarter and came home over the last six furlongs _in Imin 24 l-ssec and the last four in 55 4-ssec. Frenehy looks improved as the result of his outing on Saturdaqy, and hit out.well., My Song and Royal Lancer ran four furlongs in 51 l-ssee;‘the first two in 25 l-ssec. They finished strongly together. My Song, who has been sold to a patron of G. A. M‘Kay’s Wingatui stable, will be taken over by her new trainer to-day.

Ashaway took Imin 53sec for a mile and ran the last four furlongs in 58sec, but he could l have gone better. i _ The Great Autumn Handicap candidate, Sparkle, and the Riverton Cup horses, Sailing Lady and Waitoru, ran a mile in Imm 40sec, the last six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec, and the last four in 52 4-ssec, Sailing Lady gave her' companions about three lengths start, and headed them at the threefurlong post, but Sparkle ran to the front in the straight, and beat her by a length. Waitoru was two lengths further back. Sparkle was running on in great style at the finish, and it was an excellent gallop on her part. All going well' in the interval,- she will take her place in the Great Autumn Handicap field, and will he ridden by J. L. Strathern, who was on her in the Dunedin Cup. Sailing Lady pulled hard in the middle stages, and Waitoru was tiring after setting a solid pace. (R. E. Humphries will ride Waitoru in the Riverton Cup, and Sailing Lady will have the services of J. Dooley. The Riverton Cup candidates, Wild Career and Mona’s Song, were set a task, and took Imin 47sec, the last six furlongs in Imin 18 4-sseo, and the last four in 52 4-ssec. They finished practically on terms, but Wild Career was doing it better on the outer, and could have improved on the time. Wild Career will be ridden in the Riverton Cup by C. T. Wilson, and will be one of the hardest to beat. Recall got a break on Ackemma and beat her home by two lengths over five furlongs in Imin ssec, the last four in 51 4-osec. Recall did his work well. He is to race at Beaumont at Easter.

Strathalbyn ran seven furlongs alone in Imin 33 2-ssec, the last four in 65sec, She was stopping at -the finish after running the first three furlongs in 38 2-ssec, but it was a good gallop. Lady and Aspire ran seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, the last four in 53sec. Aspire bowled into her work in good style, and is. a ranch-im-proved mare. Blissful Lady is not the best of track workers, but she is in good fettle. Royal Money, Susie, and Bilbao were sent out to run four furlongs together but the first named broke away, and was timed to run the distance in 61 4-ssec, doing it well. The other two took 53sec.

Mondello and Pink Bond were responsible for the best half mile of the morning, when they recorded 50 3-ssec, the first two furlongs in 24 2-ssec. Both finished on well.

Boswell was given slow work on the plough, and M‘Heath was exercised on the lead, along with Gold Robe. The weather was fine at Riverton this morning following a light frost, and No. 1 grass track was open, but there was not much fast work done. The going was firm and good. Irish Fling and In Flight ran half a mile separately in 50sec, the latter doing it well within himself. Boaform, who has never looked better, was restricted to good, strong three-quarter pace on the plough. Peony Rose jumped away at the mile and a-quarter post, and was picked up by Southern Sail at the seven-fur-long mark, which occupiedlmin 33sec, the last six furlongs in Imin 18sec and the last four in Slsec. They were together at the finish, and both could have improved on the time. Arctic Star and Vitaphone jumped four of the schooling fences, and the former gave his usual good display. F.
