PICTON FiYER AWARDED D.F.M. / LONDON, March 13. (Received March 14, at 10.25 a.m.) Corporal C. B. G. Knight, the first member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force to be decorated since the outbreak of war, was awarded the:D;F.M. for skill, courage, and coolness in the face of the enemy under intense fire. As wireless operator his'maintenance of communications contributed to the success of an operation at the Schilling Roads, Frisian Island, on December 14. Mr Jordan is presenting the medal shortly. Knight was born at Picton. ■ MR WELLES'S MISSION LEAVING FOR ROME (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 13. (Received March 14, at 10.35 a.m.) Mr Welles saw Mr Eden, Mr Lloyd George, and the Australian High Commissioner. He will leave to-morrow for Paris en route to Rome. BRITAIN’S UNITY OF OUTLOOK. (Britiih Official WireleaS.) RUGBY, March 13. (Received March 14, at 11.55 a.m.) Mr Welles, at the end of his visit to London, Called upon Mr Chamberlain. Lord Halifax was present. Mr Welles leaves London to-morrow. The general feeling is he cannot fail to have been struck by the unity of outlook among personalities differing politically and in other, ways on the essential purposes of the Allies in the present struggle. Mr Welles must have had to seek fewer elucidations in London than in Berlin, but it is certain that any questions he may have had to ask have been answered with the utmost' frankness by British Ministers, the cordiality of whose reception of Mr Welles has been as genuine as it has been evident.
